SMITH VINEYARDS, SONOMA VALLEY CHARDONNAY
The Smith Estate is located in the town of Sonoma on the valley floor, nestled against the Sonoma Creek. The Estate has a long history, and is 174 years old. Established in the early 1850’s, it was the home of General Vallejo’s son, Andronico Vallejo.
The estate has always been a working ranch and in past produced eggs, apples and many farm animals. In 1974, Jim and Gloria Smith purchased the 7 acre ranch. As consumer wine tastes were evolving, Jim replanted the vineyards with Chardonnay grapes and he sold them to Schug Winery for 20 years.
With Jim passing a new generation of Smith/Lindstrom’s began managing the vineyards alongside Carneros Vineyard Management. Sustainability is highly valued by the family, and we integrated sustainable practices into our farming. From 2019 to 2023, we sold our grapes to Sara Folwer at Peju Province Winery / Calmére Estate Winery. Sara made a Chardonnay from our estate grapes and it received 91pts in the Wine Spectator.
