USA Today: Sonoma wineries seeking sustainability certs

Recently the SCW and President Karissa Kruse were featured in USA Today, discussing the sustainability movement and farming practices. Just one year later the SCW has already reached one third of our goal. Read about the progress our Sonoma County growers have made towards 100 percent sustainable by 2019, and what it takes to get there. 

Visitors can sip a portfolio of zinfandels at Ridge Vineyards’ tasting room constructed from straw bales and mud, or recharge an electric car at Inman Family Wines…In 2014, the Sonoma County Winegrowers introduced a mandate that all commercial growers be 100 percent sustainable by 2019. That meant a rigorous self-assessment and third party certification program focused on 138 farming and business practices, such as land use, canopy management, energy efficiency, water quality assessments, carbon emissions, and more…
