On Friday, July 11, we hosted the first annual “Saralee’s Sonoma County Ag Camp” in partnership with Sonoma County Farm Bureau.
Inspired by Saralee McClelland Kunde’s lifelong passion for agricultural education for youth, we created “Saralee’s Sonoma County Ag Camp” to help the region’s leading agricultural teachers incorporate sustainable ag education into their classroom curriculum to benefit our next generation of farmers.
The day started with panel discussions featuring Karissa Kruse, Tim Tesconi of Sonoma County Farm Bureau, and Sonoma County Agricultural Commissioner Tony Linegar all discussing the history of farming in this county, an overview of the Crop Report and trends, as well as background on both the Sonoma County Winegrowers and Farm Bureau. That was followed by another panel discussion featuring Doug Beretta of Beretta Dairy, Nicolas Cornejo of Clendenen Vineyard Management, Mark Pasternak of Devil’s Gulch Ranch, and Joe Pozzi of Pozzi Ranch who all described their backgrounds as farmers and explained the various career pathways in farming, as well as the importance of land stewardship and sustainability.
The afternoon was spent at the Carinalli Vineyard where participants were given a tour and overview of their vineyard operations, including a wind machine demonstration.
Here are some photos we took during the day.
