Off the Vine: Show #12 – February 10, 2015

For this week’s show, Karissa and Steve welcomed to studio Paul Foppiano of Foppiano Vineyards and Cort Munselle of Munselle Civil Engineering to discuss Frost Protection in the vineyards.  The group discussed all the collaborative efforts among Russian River Valley winegrowers and North Coast Water Coalition about the new frost regulation and the Water Demand Management Program (WDMP) to meet the new requirements set by the California State Water Resources Control Board.  More information is available at http://www.northcoastwatercoalition.com/.  They also discussed the latest innovations in Frost Protection, including the use of Wind Machines.

Finally, Paul and Cort discussed their history in Sonoma County.  For Paul, he is a 5th generation farmer and winemaker in Russian River Valley who’s family first wine was made in 1896. Cort Munselle grew up in a farming family who first settled in Alexander Valley more than 130 years ago.  Cort operates a consulting civil engineering firm that offers a full range of civil engineering and land planning services from preliminary design through construction.
