Sustainable Winegrowing Field Day, August 10

The Sonoma County Winegrape Commission and the SRJC Ag and Natural Resources Department are co-sponsoring the 11th Annual Sustainable Winegrowing Field Day on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. The event will be held at SRJC’s Shone Farm and begin at 7:55am. Shone Farm is located at 7450 Steve Olson Lane, Forestville. This is at the intersection of Eastside Rd. and Trenton-Healdsburg Rd. Registration check-in begins at 7:30am with the presentations from 7:55am-12:00pm.

This event was previously called the IPM/Organic Field Day and focuses on various aspects of Integrated Pest Management, organic and sustainable winegrowing.

Grape growers, wineries and the public are invited to attend.

This year’s agenda includes: IPM Season Highlights by Laura Breyer; the latest on certification and sustainability gains made by Sonoma County grape growers and how we compare statewide by Lisa Francioni, CSWA; weed management strategies by John Roncoroni, UCCE; and an update on EGVM harvest quarantine, protocols and proper handling of winery waste by Lisa Correia, Deputy Ag Commissioner. Just added to the program: Ken Freeze will present short videos showing the current Pierce’s Disease research trials.

Along with informational speakers, there will be an in-field demonstration comparing the impact of different spray technologies and ground speed on uniformity of coverage. 3.0 CEU hours have been approved.
